In 1869 the American Roper steam cycle powered by a two cylinder engine that was powered by charcoal was built. At approximately the same time in history a Frenchman named L.G. Perreaux designed, built and patented a machine that was similar to the American Roper steam cycle. No one knows which of these motorbikes were build first, none-the-less the year 1869 has been recorded in history as the year that the motorcycle was born.
