Harley-Davidson Motor Company is an American manufacturer of motorcycles. Harley-Davidson mostly produces heavy cruiser motorcycles characterized and know for their distinctive exhaust noise. Harley Davidson supplies many domestic police forces with their motorcycles. Harley also licenses its logo which accounts for about five percent of their net income. Harley Davidson owns patents on their V-twin motorcycle engine design, the engine that gives Harley Davidson its unique sound. Harley Davidson was nicknamed the “hog”, which has become the generic term for large motorcycles. Harley Davidson currently sells a full range of cruiser motorcycles such as the Sportster, Dyna, Softail (including the Fat Boy), Touring (including Road King and Electra Glide) and VRSC (including the V-Rod). In 1994 Harley Davidson filed a trademark application for the distinctive sound of Harley-Davidson motorcycle engine, but were opposed by nine other motorcycle manufacturers. After six year Harley Davidson withdrew their trademark application.
